Webinar: «Will the EU-Mercosur Trade Agreement Materialize?»

Date: August 09
Time: 3 PM CEST
Broadcast via Zoom and Youtube Live by Fundación Internacional Bases
Working Language: Spanish
Organized by: Somos Innovación & Fundación Internacional Bases

About the webinar:

The historic agreement between the EU and Mercosur has profound geopolitical significance, as it allows both regions to better ensure security in vital areas of general trade and, notably, in food systems, amidst rising international confrontations such as the Russian invasion of Ukraine or the trade tensions between the US and China. Latin America and the EU are keen to prevail and harmonize policies that support the EU’s geopolitical and geoeconomic vision and Latin America’s opportunity for sustainably viable growth and greater well-being. However, the ratification of the agreement seems a distant horizon. Pressures from groups and countries suggest that the deal may never be ratified. Difficulties in reaching a consensus on critical issues, such as environmental standards, hinder its progress and lead many to question the viability of this historic pact.
