Flat Tax in Argentina: The Solution to Revitalize the Economy

Buenos Aires, Argentina (January 11, 2024) – We Are Innovation, in collaboration with the Argentine Taxpayers Council and Fundación Internacional Bases, is pleased to announce the recent publication of the position paper ‘Flat Tax: Economic Growth and Fairness for Argentina.’ This comprehensive report, authored by Marianela S. Mendoza under the direction of Horacio Arana, José Cambareri, and Federico N. Fernández, proposes the implementation of a flat tax system, known as Flat Tax, in Argentina, citing its potential to revitalize the economy, promote equity, and simplify the tax system.

Marianela S. Mendoza, the primary author of the position paper, is persuaded, ‘The Flat Tax is much more than a tax reform; it is a transformation towards greater efficiency and tax justice. We have observed how this system contributes to economic growth and attracts investment in countries like Estonia and Hong Kong. Argentina can immensely benefit from this initiative.’

Horacio Arana, Senior Research Fellow at Fundación Internacional Bases, adds, ‘Our country faces unique economic challenges. A simplified and fair tax system, such as the Flat Tax, can be the key to unlocking economic potential and ensuring a more equitable distribution of the tax burden.’

Highlighting the significance of equity in the tax system, José Cambareri, the Executive Director of the Argentine Taxpayers Council, commented, ‘A single rate system eliminates distortions and preferential treatment in taxation, resulting in greater equity and a perception of justice among taxpayers.’

Federico N. Fernández, the CEO of We Are Innovation and Fundación Internacional Bases, emphasized, ‘The adoption of the Flat Tax is a step towards the formalization of the economy and increasing collection, without increasing pressure on the taxpayer.’

The report also showcases successful international experiences in a number of countries, such as Estonia, Lithuania, Hong Kong, Ukraine, and Latvia. Despite differing economic and political contexts, implementing the Flat Tax in these regions has yielded greater tax efficiency and stimulated economic growth.

The position paper ‘Flat Tax: Economic Growth and Fairness for Argentina’ is a significant milestone in Argentina’s ongoing tax reform debate. The document offers a detailed analysis and concrete proposals to address the country’s economic challenges. It is now available for consultation and download on the websites of the Fundación Internacional Bases, the Taxpayers Council, and We Are Innovation. Additionally, upcoming events focused on the Flat Tax topic will be announced soon, providing spaces for discussion and in-depth exploration of the implications and benefits of this tax change proposal, thus facilitating access and understanding for all interested parties.
