Colombia: We Are Innovation Expert Participates in Forum on Transportation Platforms Regulation
* Adriano Paranaiba, from Instituto Mises Brazil, spoke about regulating mobility platforms such as Uber or DiDi.

São Paulo, Brazil (June 01, 2022) — Adriano Paranaiba, an expert in urban mobility and digital platforms for transportation, recently participated in the International Forum “How the world has managed to regulate new forms of transportation. And Colombia for when?”. It was organized by House Representative Mauricio Toro, who has been involved in regulating platforms for four years.
Adriano Paranaiba is part of the Instituto Mises Brazil, a founding member of the We Are Innovation Network. He also holds a Ph.D. in Transportation from the University of Brasilia (UnB).
During his presentation, he made it clear that Brazil’s key has been to regulate general elements, not particularities, and that this is precisely what smart regulation is all about. “In many countries around the world, when transportation apps emerged, there was fear and suspicion of the novelty,” said Dr. Paranaiba. “Regulators wanted to prohibit innovation, ironically because they were not yet regulated. But if there had already been regulation, it would not be innovation. It would not be something innovative.”
The We Are Innovation expert also pointed out that transportation apps produce a double improvement. On the one hand, they allow people to rent their cars when they are not using them and generate extra income. On the other hand, they help reduce traffic jams and parking problems, as many people prefer to use the apps rather than their private car.
The We Are Innovation Network, which includes more than 30 NGOs and foundations and has a presence throughout LatAm and Europe, announced that they will continue to monitor the situation and will continue to participate in forums to defend the right of innovators to offer their products and services and let citizens decide whether to accept them.
