About the Speakers:
Guy Bentley (United States) is the director of consumer freedom at Reason Foundation.
Bentley’s research focuses on the taxation and regulation of nicotine, tobacco, alcohol, and food. Before joining Reason Foundation, Bentley served as a reporter in London and Washington D.C.
Bentley’s work has been featured in The Washington Post, USA Today, Forbes, Time, Business Insider, The Daily Beast, The New York Post, and other publications in the U.S. and U.K.
Bentley graduated with a bachelor’s degree in politics and international relations from the University of Nottingham and is based in Washington D.C.
Eric Crampton (New Zealand) is the Chief Economist at The New Zealand Initiative. With the Initiative, he has worked in policy areas ranging from freshwater management to policy for earthquake preparedness, and from local government to technology policy. He has recently focused on policy related to Covid-19 response. He served as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Economics at the Department of Economics & Finance at the University of Canterbury from 2003 through 2014.

Federico N. Fernández (Argentina) is a visionary leader dedicated to driving innovation and change. As the CEO of We Are Innovation, a global network of 30+ think tanks and NGOs, Federico champions innovative solutions worldwide. His expertise and passion for innovation have earned him recognition from prestigious publications such as The Economist, El País, Folha de São Paulo, and Newsweek. Johan Nissinen (Sweden) is a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) who serves on the ITRE Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the FEMM Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality. He is also part of the D-ME Delegation to the EU-Montenegro Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee. Additionally, he has worked on a report on mental health. Johan Nissinen is part of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group and is a former Swedish Parliamentarian.
Matt Ridley (United Kingdom): his books have sold over a million copies, been translated into 31 languages and won several awards. His books include The Red Queen, Genome, The Rational Optimist and The Evolution of Everything. His book on “How Innovation Works” was published in 2020, and “Viral: the search for the origin of covid-19”, co-authored with Alina Chan, was published in 2021.
He sat in the House of Lords between 2013 and 2021 and served on the science and technology select committee and the artificial intelligence select committee.
He was founding chairman of the International Centre for Life in Newcastle. He created the Mind and Matter column in the Wall Street Journal in 2010, and was a columnist for the Times 2013-2018.
He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and of the Academy of Medical Sciences, and a foreign honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
